Emma Chamberlain: From Superficial to Surprisingly Grounded?

Image
When I first came across Emma Chamberlain , I honestly saw her as a self-absorbed, out-of-touch super annoying wealthy teenage YouTuber. I mean, she is one of the biggest creators on the platform, with over 12 million subscribers! Her early videos are silly and superficial—at least from what I’ve seen. I haven’t followed her obsessively, especially not her older content. But it’s her newer videos—and especially her podcast Anything Goes —that have completely changed my perspective. I’ve come to genuinely like Emma Chamberlain. She comes across as grounded, intelligent, and surprisingly relatable. She gives thoughtful advice in her podcast and blog, often addressing her audience’s problems with real care, and her tips are actually useful—no matter your age. She’s reflective and, more than anything, an artist in her own right. If you haven’t seen her recent videos from this year or last, I highly recommend them. They carry a kind of melancholic beauty, but still feel deeply everyday...

Hannah Ricketts - Click Bait Thumbnails Gotta Go

Image
Hannah Ricketts visits London's most exclusive hotels, posh stores, and celebrity restaurants, but also occasionally fast food spots, reviewing them all. She has a natural personality—there’s nothing exaggerated about her. She doesn’t scream and shout like many YouTubers, nor does she drag things out by being unnecessarily slow, as some creators do just to fill time in their videos. In other words, her presentation is natural, and she delivers well with her comments, showing what’s essential, i.e., not lingering the camera on unnecessary things (or just herself). The video quality is also good and clear, although sometimes there can be that flickering light effect which happens in some videos due to fluorescent lighting (I think that's the cause). This is quite common in Christmas-themed videos in general. There are no annoying sounds or light effects in her videos, either, which I appreciate. Her thumbnails usually feature a shocked or deeply suffering expression, regardless...

Grizzly True Crime – When Brutal Crimes Turn Into Snark and Entertainment

Image
Gisela K , known for her YouTube channel Grizzly True Crime , has grown quite popular over the years, even appearing multiple times on Court TV. I discovered "Grizzly" while researching the brutal 2024 murder of 13-year-old Madeline Soto in Florida. I won’t delve too deeply into that case since the verdict has not yet been reached, but much of the information that surfaced was regularly posted on Gisela’s channel. She is skilled at delivering clear and concise information, which I appreciate. Like most large YouTubers, she has a dedicated fanbase who call themselves "Grizzlys"—a name she coined and they now embrace. This is the sad reality of YouTube: fans tend to become somewhat fanatical. What bothered me while following the Madeline Soto case was Gisela’s tendency to turn tragic, terrifying cases into snarky entertainment. In this particular case, the victim’s stepfather, who had known her since she was 7 or 8, groomed her so horrifically that it ultimately c...

Radiant Britt – overly nitpicky or simply realistic?

Image
Radiant Britt runs a commentary channel focused on influencers, where she (mostly) critiques mommy vloggers but also calls out problematic behaviors among influencers in general—such as being overly entitled, for example. She’s deeply passionate about dogs and owns one herself. She has frequently called out YouTubers she believes have mistreated their pets. The severity of the cases she highlights varies widely. For instance, when YouTuber and fraudster Brittany Dawn gave up her dog, which was later found severely emaciated and homeless, Britt’s criticism was completely justified—and I agreed with her 100%. However, she reacted equally strong when it came to YouTuber LoveMeg, who once used regular human shampoo on her dog instead of a dog-specific one. Britt was extremely upset about this. This is just one example of how Radiant Britt can, on the one hand, be completely reasonable, yet on the other hand, become overly fixated on even the smallest mistakes people make. She has upload...

Reviewbrah – a businessman in sheep’s clothing?

Image
Reviewbrah / The Report Of The Week is a  unique man in a suit who reviews fast food, he began his YouTube career when he was just around 13 or 14 years old. He used to upload one video per week, reviewing things like frozen pizza, Domino’s, Pizza Hut, Burger King, McDonald’s, etc., all from his parents’ home just outside New York city. His popularity grew over time, largely due to his old-fashioned, articulate way of speaking, his signature appearance — always dressed in a suit — and his clever sense of humor. He eventually moved to Florida and continued making tons of food reviews, often filmed in his car in parking lots outside fast food chains. Today, many years later, he has nearly 3 million subscribers. His videos are still very popular, often getting anywhere from 100,000 to over a million views each. However, now approaching 30, he records all of his videos from home and no longer films outside — the days of car reviews in parking lots are long gone. The food he now gets ...

Bryan Johnson – When reassurance seeking goes too far

Image
I had never heard of Bryan Johnson until I was browsing through Netflix documentaries one day. I started watching the documentary about his life choices, Don´t  Die , and Blueprint , his company. In short, it’s about how he believes he can become immortal by living an extremely regimented, robot-like life — for example, waking up at 5 AM, working out, taking 50 supplements a day (or was it 100?), completely avoiding sunlight, scanning his body, doing all kinds of blood tests, and undergoing a wide range of body treatments. And no, the methods and treatments he tries are far from evidence-based, which means he's basically using himself as a guinea pig — going against everything established medical science stands for. He believes it's entirely possible to live forever, as long as you "do the right things," but in my opinion, he’s more likely to stress his body to death and die prematurely — at least if he continues the way he has so far. One example of when things we...

Marie Dubuque - The original Youtuber since day 1

Image
Let’s begin this blog with my first favorite of them all—the OG of YouTube, or at least one of them… Marie Dubuque . I think she started her earliest videos around 2011, so she’s been there from the very start. I listened to interviews with her in the past, and she said that she used to give her son unsolicited advice about his life in school with girls etc, and he got tired of it—so he suggested she start a YouTube channel to help people there instead. She did! And she’s been delivering ever since. For those of you who don’t know, she’s someone who responds to people’s everyday struggles, usually revolving around all types of relationships, especially friendships and romantic ones. If you searched on YouTube for anything related to those topics, Marie was the one who always popped up—at least in the past (now YouTube is sadly bombarded with young "experts"). What I love about Marie is that she’s in fact older, but she was never afraid to start a YouTube channel. She’s ha...
