Emma Chamberlain: From Superficial to Surprisingly Grounded?

When I first came across Emma Chamberlain, I honestly saw her as a self-absorbed, out-of-touch super annoying wealthy teenage YouTuber. I mean, she is one of the biggest creators on the platform, with over 12 million subscribers! Her early videos are silly and superficial—at least from what I’ve seen. I haven’t followed her obsessively, especially not her older content.

But it’s her newer videos—and especially her podcast Anything Goes—that have completely changed my perspective. I’ve come to genuinely like Emma Chamberlain. She comes across as grounded, intelligent, and surprisingly relatable. She gives thoughtful advice in her podcast and blog, often addressing her audience’s problems with real care, and her tips are actually useful—no matter your age.

She’s reflective and, more than anything, an artist in her own right. If you haven’t seen her recent videos from this year or last, I highly recommend them. They carry a kind of melancholic beauty, but still feel deeply everyday and authentic. There’s a quiet, lonely vibe to them—though she’s not really alone. Her dad often helps film, and her cats make frequent appearances on her podcast, bringing a kind of comforting presence.

She does talk about her coffee brand sometimes, but not in an overly pushy or commercial way. It feels real. I’m not into fashion or the whole Met Gala scene, so those videos don’t really interest me. But her travel videos are always worth watching—insightful and thoughtfully made. One of my absolute favorites is Stories from My Childhood. It’s raw, honest, and explains a lot about who she is today.

I no longer see Emma Chamberlain as a disconnected, YouTuber young adult stereotype. Honestly, she’s grown into a real video artist—with no exaggeration. Sure, she still gets on my nerves a little now and then—but don’t we all?
